TIME PASSAGES PLUS VIDEO

Many times in my speech and writing I will use certain phrases or titles from songs or poems I have read and liked. (My title today is just one such example.) I was in my early 20's when I first heard Al Stewart sing that song.
I was at work yesterday and just coming
back from lunch when I got a telephone call. I didn't recognize the
number and seldom do I answer calls like this as most are
either telemarketers or someone trying to reach whoever had my telephone number before me. This time though I picked it up and the voice on
the other end simply said, “Hey.”
I said hello and I suppose I paused and then
a soft voice asked, “Rob, do you know who this is?” I told her no
that I didn't. Excitedly she said, “It's Jocie!” Jocelyn, how
sweet! It's funny how time passes. Instantly I thought back to the
first time I ever saw her... nearly nineteen years ago and she was
just a tiny 6 month old baby. Now, here is this college freshmen...
all grown up calling me on the phone. Life passes so very quickly ):
We talked for a little bit and I asked
if she was still in school and she said that she was a freshmen. I
thought to myself that sounded about right, maybe ninth grade? We
talked a little more and I guess there was something I said that
caused her to say, “You know I meant a college freshmen... right?”
Wow!!! Four more years instantly evaporated as smoke in my mind :)
It was fun talking with her and it
was a good reminder to me of just how fleeting life really is.
Because somehow, it only seems like week before last that I lived on
Chestnut street and was for the first time handed a tiny baby with
curly dark hair to hold.
The first thought that entered my mind after we ended our call was a refrain from the song Time Passages, "I'm not the kind to live in the past as the years run short and the days too fast." (That is so very, very true!)
Jocelyn, in a sense... was our first
grand baby. She was our constant companion on road trips and many
other places we would go. Now, she is grown up and ready to begin a
life on her own. Sometimes my head spins at how fast a lifetime is
lived. Admittedly, it doesn't take a lot to cause my head to spin...
but I think things like this can do just that :)
Well, on to other news. I have a short hike planned in
two weeks at Burnheim Forest. Then, as of today I have another trip
planned 47 days from today! I will leave it to you, my readers and
friends to make a guess as to which one I am most looking forward to
taking :)
I hope everyone has a great day today
and I will upload my video for the day sometime later.
