Settled In

4/25/2010 7:33 am

Well, not only are we moved... we are just about done unpacking. Thankfully we have a large garage where most of our things were placed until we could sort through it all. Deb got an awful lot done last evening.
Finally, after 36 years (I think) we are getting it right. Evidently we are both educable-slow, for it has taken a very long time to do this. Every single box... and every single item we own is being scrutinized and if it is not something we are using and using often... we are getting rid of it!
From my office alone I have already stacked several full boxes into an area in the garage for the girls to go through... and if they do not want any of the items, we will either sell them or donate them to someone else. Deb has been doing the same thing with all of the other things we own. DOWNSIZING IS GREAT!!!
What started this was when we were getting ready to move I suggested that we get rid of everything that we do not actually need or use. Most of our things had been in storage for nearly a year and we still did without nothing... so, if we hadn't had these "things" in a year... and we got along fine... why keep them?
So, everything we do not use regularly... is going. Everything we have that at our death the girls would get... they are getting now... why wait? Other than things like china, furniture, and a few other items we still use... they can have now. At least to me... it just seems to make sense. I mean, we can un-clutter where we live and at the same time clutter up their abodes... makes perfect sense to me!
This, getting rid of material things, is not exactly a windfall for the girls. I feel like the man who had his last-will-and-testament read in court. Having nothing of any particular value to leave, his will simply said: "BEING OF SOUND MIND AND BODY... I SPENT IT ALL!"
I also did not mean to take so long in posting this new blog. It is just that over the course of the last few weeks I have been moving and working and have been busy. I also had a fairly new HP computer give up the ghost and my second computer that was on an ethernet cord had been installed incorrectly by me... (I know that last thought is hard to believe) and I could not access online for more than two weeks. It took Bob all of ten seconds to find the problem and get me back up and running.
I am going to give one last chance for someone to claim the free dinner that was offered in part two of my last three part series. To date I have been sent three incorrect answers... at least I believe them to be incorrect. However, since I have had no one but myself to view my own answer... logically I have to admit the possibility that my answer is incorrect... though I don't believe so. That is probably only because I always think I'm right. (lol)
Therefore, until my next posting you still have time to send me your thoughts. If no one sends me the correct answer... then I will go to the restaurant and take Deb only... you will really be missing out!
