IT'S MY LUCKY DAY :)

Friday March 11, 2016 9:43 am

I'm off today, so that's sort of lucky, right? But, that's not what I was thinking when I sat down to write. I'm going to a dog show in Tennessee and my van is a Ford Club wagon (nine passenger) and I barely get 10 miles to the gallon on gas, so I rented for my trip.

Because originally I had planned on driving down by myself I asked for an economy car (the cheapest thing they offer) but when I went in a little while ago to pick it up they didn't have any of the economy cars to rent: so I got two free upgrades and I will be driving down tomorrow in a much nicer Camry.

Also, that worked out better because now three of Steph's older girls will be riding along with me... hence my sentiment, "it's my lucky day."

Now, hopefully my luck will continue when I go after bit to buy my lottery tickets :)

I hope any who reads this has a nice day today.

BETRAYED (286...5/146

Tuesday March 8, 2016 8:00 pm

I suppose it's this date in particular and the Ides of March (fast approaching) in general that has caused me to think about this subject. I tried to think of well known betrayers throughout history and I came up with 7 people. In the end though I decided not to use Tokyo Rose, Dona Marina, Benedict Arnold, or Aldrich James. After thinking about it I decided that even though their names are very common when anyone discusses traitors their crimes were not as personal as the three I chose to write about. The above people all harmed from tens of thousands to millions of people but the hurt they caused was not exactly personal.

The three I chose are Judas Iscariot, Bob Ford, and Marcus Brutus. Naturally I believe the person who tops all others when it comes to intimate betrayal is Judas... as even the name Judas is synonymous with evil and traitors.

I chose Bob Ford because he was supposed to be a friend to Jesse James but in a cowardly act he shot and killed him from behind.

Then, Brutus also was a great betrayer as Julius Caesar believed Brutus loved him. Instead, his hand was on one of the knives which was used to kill Caesar. I seriously doubt it was actually stated, nonetheless I love the phrase that was attributed to him in his dying breath as Caesar fixed his gaze upon Brutus and said, "Et tu, Brute?" (Even you Brutus?)

Two of these cases of betrayal was for money... and one I believe (Brutus) was for love of state more than man. However, in my mind there is NEVER a reason to betray someone if you honestly love them. I think the betrayal is absolute proof that words and deeds do not match and the act of the betrayer is a strong statement that words were only cheap lies. Remember, actions always speak louder than words!

It might be a bit before I write again... we shall see.

I hope any who reads this has a good evening.

BREAKFAST WITH A KID

Saturday March 5, 2016 11:01 am

I'm off today so I slept in and got a later start than usual. Anyway, before showering and getting ready to run some errands I decided to fix myself an egg omelet. I attempted to do this quietly and in semi-darkness as everyone else in the house was still asleep.

I had all of the things out and had put two eggs, milk, cottage cheese, Cholula sauce, and pepper in a mixing bowl and was preparing to whip it when Trin (one of my granddaughters) came stumbling in wiping sleep from her eyes. Her hair was wild and tousled and I had to grin at her appearance.

I stopped what I was doing and set her on the edge of the table and we talked for awhile. Finally when she was more awake and after she gave me a litany of toys she wants me to buy for her I set her down and finished what I had started... and poured my egg mix into a hot skillet.

Busily she started opening drawers and taking out odds and ends of silverware she thought I might need? Then, she saw one of my veggie "sausage" patties and wanted one. I explained it wasn't meat but I would cut her a piece and if she liked it I would fix one for her also. She nibbled on it... made a face and handed it back to me. Then she started a commentary on what I was cooking.

She began with the spring mix I had cut up with green peppers and tomatoes to fold into the omelet when it was almost done. She picked up a piece of green and said, "Papaw, why do you want to eat a leaf?"

I laughed and started to explain the difference between greens, cruciferous, etc. and very quickly I realized I was starting to confuse myself... as well as the big eyed four-year-old staring intently at me, so I said, "I'm not sure Honey, I guess I just like them."

To the cottage cheese she said, "Oooohh, that looks disgusting!" And the word 'disgusting' she draws out so it actually starts to sound sort of disgusting :)

Finally my eggs are on my plate and I sprinkle some shredded cheese on the top and I carefully open three small packets of verde sauce and I squeeze each one until they are empty and crumpled beside my plate.

Now, she puts her face very close to my plate intently staring at something, as she turns away she scowls and says, "Oooohh, that looks like boogers!" (Apparently she had been staring at the green verde sauce.)

In spite of myself and the fact that I have a weak stomach I still had to laugh as I said, "Thanks Trin, you know I still have to eat this."

I did, 'boogers' and all. Kids :)

ALONE

Friday March 4, 2016 11:32 pm

It's hard to believe that Poe was just out of his teens when he penned this... it's a great poem!

ALONE ~ Poe

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view.

He often wrote great lines and excerpts... one of my favourite is the ending from another of his poems: ... Is all that we see or seem But a dream within a dream?...

Night :)

THE TRUMPSTER IS IN TOWN

Tuesday March 1, 2016 1:21 pm

I had a doctor's appointment about an hour ago in downtown Louisville. So, before I went to my appointment I drove around and looked at the people in downtown with their signs of support for Trump.

It was fun watching them and I sort of wish I didn't have my appointment at the same time as his rally started, else I would have loved going in and watching the spectacle of a Trump rally!

I very much like his thumb in the eye to all of the PC liberals in the world as well as the Republican establishment that turns belly up and flees when libs say, "Boo" to them.

So, I say... get 'em Trump. lol
